Urgent: Tell your Representative to VOTE NO on the ESA Amendments Act!

One of the most dangerous anti-wildlife bills ever written will soon come to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.

Rep. Bruce Westerman’s (R-AR) ESA Amendments Act of 2025 would remove some of the most important tools in the Endangered Species Act, leaving already threatened and endangered animals in even greater peril of extinction.

The good news is Defenders members already made an incredible difference by previously delaying this bill from advancing! More than 17,000 members contacted their Representatives, causing House leadership to put off bringing the legislation to a vote.

But that bill will be voted on soon. It’s urgent that we raise our voices once again and make it clear to our Members of Congress that we want to protect threatened and endangered wildlife, not see it go extinct!

As a constituent who cares about the future of America’s wildlife, I strongly urge you to VOTE NO on the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 (H.R.1897).

If this bill is passed, it would eviscerate vital protections under the Endangered Species Act. At a time when 40% of America’s wildlife is at risk of disappearing forever, we cannot afford to lose these protections and worsen the extinction crisis.

The  Endangered Species Act is America’s most effective law to prevent extinction. Nearly all species listed under the  Endangered Species Act have been saved from extinction, and hundreds are on the path to recovery today. Additionally, the  Endangered Species Act has broad bipartisan support and popularity among the American people.

While framed as an attempt to “modernize” the Endangered Species Act, this bill would, in fact, gut many of the Endangered Species Act’s core tenets and drastically reduce protections for imperiled wildlife, ultimately condemning them to continued struggle and decline.

Again, I strongly urge you to VOTE NO on the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 and support the nation’s longstanding commitment to saving imperiled wildlife from extinction through a strong and effective Endangered Species Act.
