Act Now: Stop the return of bear baiting and other barbaric hunting practices on national preserve lands!

Right now in Alaska, barbaric hunting practices like baiting bears with donuts before killing them are illegal on National Preserve lands.

But under the Trump administration’s latest proposal, the rules against those practices could be rewritten – sanctioning state management of predators on these lands to maximize killing, including with methods like bear baiting with human foods, in an attempt to artificially boost prey populations like moose or caribou.

The Park Service currently has a responsibility and a long tradition of not intervening in wildlife dynamics in National Preserves. But at the state level, Alaska’s policy is to manage wildlife for “maximum human consumption.”

Now the Park Service is proposing to hand over wildlife management back in Alaska’s National Preserves back to the state. If the new rule goes into effect, National Preserves could be run like game farms as predators are managed to scarcity.

The public only has a few days to submit comments. Make sure you speak up today and urge Park Service leadership to protect all wildlife in Alaska’s National Preserves, including predators!

Tell the National Park Service: Don’t abandon Predator Rule protections on National Preserves!
