As a constituent who cares immensely about protecting imperiled wildlife, I implore you to oppose the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 (H.R.1897), which, if passed, would eviscerate the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Our planet is facing a catastrophic extinction crisis. Species are disappearing faster than at any time in human history, and in the U.S. alone, thousands of species are imperiled. The ESA is America’s most effective law to prevent extinction. Nearly all species listed under the ESA have been saved from extinction, and hundreds are on the path to recovery today. Additionally, the ESA has broad bipartisan support and popularity among the American people.

If this damaging bill is passed, it would undermine vital provisions of the ESA, placing politics above science. It would subject wildlife and critical habitat to new harms, when we should be working to recover wildlife at the brink of extinction. While framed as an attempt to “modernize” the ESA, this bill would, in fact, gut many of the ESA’s core tenets and drastically reduce protections for imperiled wildlife, ultimately condemning them to continued struggle and decline.

Again, I strongly urge you to oppose the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 and support the nation’s longstanding commitment to saving imperiled wildlife from extinction through a strong and effective Endangered Species Act. Congress should not be weakening this incredibly successful, and urgently needed, law. Instead, we must confront this extinction crisis and work to prevent America’s imperiled wildlife – such as the Florida manatee, loggerhead sea turtle and black-footed ferret – from disappearing forever.
