Urgent: Tell your representative to vote NO on Rep. Boebert’s wolf delisting bill!

Breaking news: Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) bill to strip away all remaining federal protections for gray wolves could come up for a vote soon after you read this.

The bill is misleadingly named the “Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025,” but the true purpose is to gut remaining protections for wolves under the Endangered Species Act, while blocking any attempt to challenge the delisting in court.

This is an attempt by a member of Congress to abuse their power and to ignore science to target one species directly. If it passes, this bill would put political decision making in the driver’s seat, bypassing the ESA and government scientists as necessary protections for gray wolves are thrown to the curb.

As your constituent and someone who cares deeply about protecting wildlife, I urge you to vote NO on Representative Boebert’s (R_CO) intentionally misleadingly named bill, the Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025 (H.R. 845), which the full House is expected to consider this week.

If passed, this bill would prematurely delist gray wolves in the Lower 48 from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and would also eliminate the ability to challenge the delisting in court. The ESA gives U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists responsibility for protecting endangered species based on sound science and public input. Congress is wrongly attempting to substitute politics for science-based agency decision making and judicial oversight that have been cornerstones of the ESA’s success for over 50 years.

The gray wolf is an iconic and important keystone species that plays a vital role in keeping America’s ecosystems healthy. Gray wolf populations in the United States are still recovering from decades of decimation from predator control programs and habitat loss. Wolves have begun a comeback due to ESA protections but remain far from fully recovered.

In contrast to what the bill’s title leads one to believe, more livestock are lost to weather than to wolves each year. Non-lethal deterrent tools have a proven track record of keeping wolves away from livestock and pets when implemented correctly.

Again, I urge you to stand up for the ESA and to oppose Representative Boebert’s so-called “Pet and Livestock Protection Act.”
