Our forests are in danger – speak out against repealing the “roadless rule”!

The undeveloped backcountry of America’s national forests are currently protected from industrial logging and being fragmented by road networks by what is known as the “Roadless Rule.” This rule protects important habitat for animals like grizzly bears, lynx, Pacific salmon, and many others.

But now, the Trump administration is putting the Roadless Rule on the chopping block, and if they succeed in repealing it, countless species will suffer.

A public comment period on this reckless proposal is now open. It’s up to us to speak out as loudly as we can against this proposal to desecrate and fragment our nation’s backcountryforests!

Secretary Rollins,

I urge you not to repeal the Roadless Rule. The 45 million acres of roadless forests protected by this Rule are vital for wildlife connectivity and conservation.

Our roadless forests provide billions of dollars in ecosystem services to this nation in the form of clean water, clean air, and wildlife conservation. They also fuel a trillion-dollar outdoor recreation industry.

The Roadless Rule reflects a carefully constructed compromise that provides vital protections to fish and wildlife habitat while still assuring flexibility for reducing the risk of severe fire and restoring ecological health.

Rolling back the Roadless Rule will jeopardize the economic benefits that these areas provide and will destroy valuable wildlife habitat. This would be especially dire for endangered species like the relictual slender salamander, coastal marten, and Carolina northern flying squirrel that are already on the brink of extinction and depend upon habitat in roadless areas.

We shouldn’t jeopardize the wildlife habitat, recreation, and clean water that these beloved local forests provide by opening them to road-building, commercial logging, mining, and drilling. Please conserve America’s last wild forests.
