While it's called the “Fix Our Forests Act,”in truth this bill is designed to open up public lands to massive logging projects under the guise of preventing wildfires.

Even as our nation is dealing with the consequences of raging wildfires, some members of Congress are playing politics instead of finding solutions to this crisis. To be clear, this bill is not a solution – in fact, it could make wildfires even worse by sacrificing resilient old-growth trees to logging companies.

Before the Senate votes on this legislation, we have this chance to speak out against profit-driven giveaways of public lands!

Dear Senator {contact_data~lastName},

I am your constituent and I’m writing to urge you to oppose FOFA, the so-called “Fix Our Forest Act.” While I am greatly concerned about escalating impacts of climate change and the increasing severity of wildfires, this bill is not a solution and could actually increase susceptibility to harmful fires. Instead, we should minimize wildfire risk and protect communities through home hardening and defensible space initiatives, along with addressing climate change.

FOFA opens our cherished public lands to immense logging projects under the guise of protecting communities from wildfire. This bill limits the public’s voice, removes science from land management decisions, and rolls back critical environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act  on millions of acres of federal lands.

Proponents of this bill claim it’s about forest health and wildfire mitigation, but the fact is that the logging projects rubberstamped by this bill will remove fire-resilient trees and could worsen the risk of wildfire. As we continue to feel the devastating impacts of climate inaction, we must protect our forests and make them more resilient, not cut them to the ground.
